Get Happy! “Hollywood Hits from Harold Arlen”
It’s time to skip down the “Yellow Brick Road” as we tap our feet to the greatest, swingin’ hits of the 30’s and 40’s from the Cotton Club to The Great White Way to the Silver Screen! Celebrate the standards that made Judy Garland famous including “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz. “Come Rain, or Come Shine,” Get Happy will carry you away with the bluesy tunes that distinguished Harold Arlen as one of the Great American Composers of the 20th Century.
Conductor, Aaron Gandy assembled this program the year of Harold Arlen’s Centenary, as there were no concert orchestrations of his music available. It has since been performed at Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Humanities Festival, and Signature Theatre. The National Endowment for the Humanities underwrote a grant for the purpose of locating and restoring original vintage orchestrations for Arlen’s songs. Mr. Gandy located long-forgotten orchestrations in the Warner Brothers’ Film Archive in Los Angeles, at the Library of Congress, and at the New York Public Library. When the work was completed, they had the only Harold Arlen orchestra concert program in the entire country…and probably the world!
